Clary sage is an impressive plant with an outstanding ability to balance women when our hormones are on a roller coaster ride. The essential oil and the hydrosol are two totally intimate companions for women during PMS and all stages of menopause. During menopause, clary sage oil can help reduce hot flushes, palpitations, night sweats, irritability, as well as dizziness and headaches.

Clary sage hydrosol has all the benefits the essential oil has, only in a minute amount, and the clary sage water is unsurpassed.

We grow clary sage in our green house for hydrosol and I have found the hydrosol effective for hormone related cramps and water retention, moodiness, and other symptoms of PMS. A three-week, or 21 day program can help regulate the menstrual cycle, reducing excessive bleeding and helping reestablish the cycle after cessation of birth-control medication. Basically, follow your cycle and during the week of ovulation break from the clary water for the week, the following 21 days Clary water is a safe alternative and a harmless approach. Menopausal symptoms also respond well, particularly in synergy with sage hydrosol. Try a three-week treatment with a 50-50 combination of the two hydrosols or alternate clary one day, sage the next to reduce hot flashes. Do not use sage hydrosol if you are hypertensive.

Clary Sage is a lovely clarifying mist. Mist your face and feel the soothing sensation as the astringent is clarifying and the effect is working. It is also a great toner for oily skin. The clarifying properties of clary sage hydrosol relieve pressure around the eye sockets, temples, and sinus areas, a symptom many people suffer with for many different reasons.

Black Elderberry Extract proven to help combat Swine Flu Virus H1N1 (A)!

A New clinical study confirms efficacy against H1N1 virusScientists at the Retroscreen Virology Centre have identified that black elderberry extract is effective in fighting the swine flu H1N1 virus(1).In a randomised, placebo controlled, double-blind in-vitro study the black elderberry extract was found to be 70 per cent effective in preventing the H1N1 virus from infecting healthy cells and reduced intracellular replication by the same amount. The Black Elderberry extract commercially available was shown to have a significant effect on cells after just five minutes incubation time.

Details of the study are available at http://www.blackelderberry.info/.This new research suggests that black elderberry extract could provide a two-fold solution to both the prevention and treatment of the H1N1 swine flu virus. The study also substantiates earlier trial findings which showed that the black elderberry extract was effective in reducing the duration of influenza symptoms by four days(2). In comparison, Tamiflu only reduces the duration of symptoms by one day(3).

Previously, an in-vitro study also found black elderberry extract to be 99 per cent effective against the H5N1 strain of Avian Flu(4).Following these results, scientists are investigating the possibility of applying for permission to engage in in-vivo studies on swine flu sufferers - something which is currently prohibited under European law. Black elderberries are thought to contain a compound which coats viruses and prevents them from penetrating and infecting healthy cells. As a result viruses are unable to replicate. Any virus infected cells are then killed and ingested by the body’s white blood cells to remove the virus from the body.

Gary Snook from Pharmacare Europe, manufacturers of Sambucol says: “This study is encouraging at a time when we are facing widespread infection of the H1N1 virus. With a pandemic situation the need to prevent opportunities of transmission of the virus is of utmost importance. Antiviral formulations like this are of particular interest to control the spread of the virus.”He continues: “This study has tested black elderberry extract for its efficacy in inactivating the swine flu virus and the results are significant. Many people will find these results of interest, as black elderberry extract could provide a safe, effective solution to both preventing and treating the spread of swine flu.”

Dr Serene Foster, expert immunologist and registered medical herbalist agrees: “Black elderberries have been traditionally used to help protect against various viral ailments, including flu, because of their immune health properties. It is believed that a compound contained in the black elderberry extract used in this study, prevents viruses from attaching to living cells. This new research shows that these dark purple fruits are effective in helping the immune system to fight back against specific strains of flu such as the H1N1 strain.

Creation Farm was recently selected by Project Greeen at MSU(Michigan State University) to help with their innovative micro farm research. Project Greeen has Provided Creation Farm with a 30'x96' Greenhouse to expand its herb and herb plant production while keeping important data that will help shape the future of innovative small farm technologies. 12 sites were selected across Michigan in a variety of Micro Climates for this long term growing study.

Visitors to Creation Farm will be able to view a large variety of Herbs and Vegetables growing at Creation Farm that either started or reside in the new Greenhouse.

The Greenhouse is heated by solar energy captured in the intensively planted thermal mass within raised beds. The natural form of Agriculture practiced at Creation Farm is based on a philosophy known as shumei, which helps farmers grow crops in harmony with nature, also with the well being of the end use consumers in mind.

This means no chemicals, no pesticides, no herbicides, no manure or processed soil additives,

or anything that would interfere with the natural growing processes and potentially harm human beings or the environment.
